Everything started going big when LennyMcLennington (GitHub) removed the CoC (Code of Conduct) form PolyMC's repo, link, local archive, external archive. He also proceeded to remove people he deemed to be "radical queers" from the GitHub organization and every other place tied to the project he had acces to. The final straw was the moderators adding PluralKit (local archive, external archive) to the Discord.
Predictably, this upset a lot of people, some of who raided the Discord and GitHub (opening issues).
The original action was a modification of the CoC, removing specifications about who has to be respected and why, to make it more succinct. Link, local archive, external archive, local screenshot.
Early PolyMC Discord announcements
People spread the roumor that Lenny and/or PolyMC got hacked, and would be used to distribute malware. GT:NH had more integrity.
The Discord got locked up because of the raid, and the expelled people created their own Discord and fork. The project was initially named "PlaceholderMC" and got rebranded to Prism Launcher. Website, archive, early archive where it looks just like PolyMC.
Lenny got suspended from the Arch User Repository (aur). PolyMC got removed from the AUR and flagged as malware (fake CVE's). It also at least happened for Fedora, Gentoo, and NixOS packages. Some of these distros straight up replaced PolyMC with PrismMC.
Reddit:
r/feedthebeast: link, external archive. r/PolyMCLauncher: link, external archive. Open letter to Lenny, from u/Da_Boom: link, archive. The r/PolyMCLauncher sub got privated for a short period of time.

The creation of PrismMC did not fly under the radar of Quilt. Gdude, the head janitor of Quilt has appeared in their Discord vc. A Quilt team member, Emmaffle (external archive) joined PrismMC too.
